Green Roofs & Living Walls

Green Roofs are being planted everywhere and for good reasons. They can reduce heating and cooling costs up to 20%, filter and absorb stormwater, double the life-span of a roof membrane, and reduce noise and increase air quality in urban areas. We are certified installers of the LiveRoof system and recently installed over 8,000 square feet of their sedum modules on the Burlington Airport roof in May 2011.

Living walls are primarily art but can also serve as insulation and have air purifying/noise reduction benefits. We have created small walls using the ELT Easy Green living wall system, the main component of which is an angled cell panel. Our favorite system however is the hydroponic capillary mat system where plants are inserted between two layers of vertically hung felt and water trickles down to a trough and is then re-circulated. We feel the capillary mat system is superior because it respects the complex nature of plants, and allows the roots room to intermingle.
